NYC, Jay Maisel, and SantaCon
December 15th, 2009It’s been a big month for me. I’ve been in New York, graciously staying with my good friends Chris and Leigh Anna Thompson. I had originally planned to move here in January, but something big came up, and I had to get here early.
Last week I officially became Jay Maisel’s new assistant and studio manager. I’ll be working for him full time, keeping his monumental archive organized, his prints sold, his website current, and his building maintained. I’m taking over for Jamie Smith, who has left some pretty big shoes to fill, and will be focusing on Jay’s workshops and his own shooting.
I interviewed on a Friday, and started the job the following Tuesday, so I’ve been suddenly thrust into city life. I figured part of that involved having some kind of night life, so I intentionally treated myself to a night on the town on the same night as SantaCon NYC 2009. SantaCon is essentially a pub crawl for people dressed as Santa, an elf, or a raindeer, or any elaborate christmas-themed costume. The many Santas of New York know how to have a good time.

This is my new NYC buddy, Stephen. He's the first friend I've made here that I didn't already go to high school with.
