I have a commitment to failure. Without failure, there’s no progress. If I’m not learning, I’m not moving – and I always need to be moving. The world of photography offers me that failure. There is always something to learn in this business, no matter how experienced you are. I’m constantly learning how my diverse background – which includes screen printing, graphic/web design, and video production – affects the world of photography and my place in it. Photography provides the opportunity to travel to places and meet people that most can’t. But more importantly, it provides the opportunity to work and build something with our hands; even in the face of the “digital revolution,” we have to be on our feet, moving, building, thinking, tinkering. This is why I’m in the photography business.
In two years, the world of photography has given me the opportunities to photograph the likes of Noam Chomsky, Michelle Rhee, James Victore and Peter de Séve, explore the inner workings of the largest Caribbean cruise ship on the ocean, travel the entire east coast from Miami to Boston, and get published in Atlanta Magazine and Paste Magazine. I’ve learned something new every step of the way, and I have no plans on stopping.
